Vintage Crossed Square Pink and White Shirting Quilt, c1920

Lovely pink and white quilt with unusual use of fabrics and design.

MATERIALS

The quilt is constructed in a variation of the Crossed Square pattern, with a simplified grid of double pink strips set against blocks of striped white shirting fabrics. This creates a visually dynamic pattern, with the stripes echoing the grids. Hand quilted in white thread in zig zag pattern. Lightweight cotton batting.

Also unusual is the white shirting fabric used for the backing, with black and blue pin stripes. Bound back to front.

CONDITION

Good vintage condition. It has been carefully hand washed and air dried. Some fabric thinning noted in the backing. A few small storage stains. No other major damage noted. Please review all photos.

AGE

Exact age unknown. Likely made circa 1920 based on fabrics used. Found in Missouri.

Measures 86" x 74".
